okay. i am not sure i have EVER worked this hard on a drawing - EVAR! maybe, but i can't remember.
okay, lemme tell you a story: i was checking out Bizenghast fanart right here on DA. i saw a picture a girl had copied out of the Bizenghast art book. it was of Dinah gobbling down apples and looking guilty. (so i guess she gets credit for inspiring the basic idea) this reminded me of the apples from the Tree of Lazarus in book 2. THAT gave me an idea for a scene in the garden of Eden where Dinah and Vincent are Eve and Adam, and of course the Lazarus apples are the forbidden apples from the tree.
first, i hand drew this using all the books as reference. it took me about 3 hours total to pencil and ink it.
once i scanned it into my computer, i took 7 hours - SEVEN HOURS!!!! (i was keeping track)- to color it using photo studio. omg it was hhhaaarrrddd!!!!!!
anyway, i'd like you to please take note of all the awesome details! the bubbles in the apples! Dinah's gold snake necklace! her dress (based on the one Dinah wore when freeing Hides)! the dress! roses in the front inset. banana leaves over her hips. the fig leaf over her... yeah. a boa of leaves. twigs in her corset (hard to get, thats why i mention it). and that cool vine that's whipstitched around the front!!!
her hair is in a long bizarre spiral. i dont know why i did it that way, but i did. with a thorny vine tucked into the curl.
also, note that Edaniel is the snake that's telling her to "just shut up and eat the damn apple"
i wasn't sure what to do with the background - it was a little random. but it was kinda fun to do. i thought to make it look peaceful i'd draw a deer, and to make it seem like the begining of everything i mixed pines and palm trees. i know it's not great, but i was really drawing a blank on what to do! XD but i do love my tree!
oh, speaking of which! gets complete credit for inspiring the border on here. even though the design was based on the border on the covers of the books, she does this cool thing with art neuvau (sp?) borders where some part of the picture peeks out, like the tree limb. she gets props for inspiring me. thanks InkScribble! xoxo
i worked so fucking hard on this. i hope LeGrow sensei is impressed. i wanted to draw something even she would think is awesome.
i also wanted to imply Vincent's nudity. heh he was chibi in the original sketch, so i had to leave him like that. he was so sweet!
i hope ya'll like this. despite the numerous mistakes (plz dont point em out i know they're there!), i am uber proud of this. please let me know what you think!
